The washing method of your shaver varies slightly depending on your model. Norelco offers shavers with a one-touch open system, without a one-touch open system, and two-headed models.

How do I find the model number of my Norelco electric razor?

Before we dive into and show you how to clean your electric razor, you must ensure the instructions match your model.

Perhaps you know which Norelco electric shaver you have. That’s awesome. For those that can’t remember which model they have, it’s easy to find the information.

Norelco shavers have the model located just above the on/off switch as well as on the back of the razor. Have a look at either of these places, and you’re good to go.

What should I do before cleaning my Norelco shaver?

One thing it pays to do before you wash your shaver is to remove excess hair.

Your shaver should come with a soft brush. If it doesn’t, then a soft-bristle toothbrush will work.

When you remove the head of the shaver, carefully run your brush over it. This will dislodge and remove any hair. Then you are ready to carry on with the cleaning.

The following cleaning instructions apply to the following one-touch open system models:

  • S1000
  • S3000
  • S5000*
  • S6000
  • S7000*
  • S9000

  1. Turn on the shaver and wash it under warm water.
  1. Switch off the shaver and then push the release button to open the head.
  1. Place the hair chamber under warm water to clean it.
  1. Rinse the head of the shaver with warm water.
  1. Remove excess water by gently shaking the shaver. Allow the unit to air dry. Don’t use a cloth or paper towel to dry the shaver as this can damage it.
  1. When the shaver is dry, close the head unit.

Job done!

Cleaning a Norelco electric shaver that doesn’t have a one-touch open system

Some S7000 and S9000 shavers don’t have the nifty one-touch system.

If your shaver falls under this style, then here are the cleaning directions:

  1. Switch on your shaver and give it a quick wash under warm water.
  1. Turn off your shaver and remove the head.
  1. Give the head a good cleanse under warm water (30 seconds is enough time). Let the head air-dry and then reattach it to the shaver.

They say that two heads are better than one. That can certainly be true when it comes to shaving.

If you are blessed to own this type of Norelco shaver, these steps take you through how to wash it:

  1. Separate the head from the shaver.
  1. Wash the head under warm water for 30 seconds. Remove any excess water by carefully shaking the shaver.
  1. Open the top of the shaver head by pushing the release button. Clean this with warm water, then let it air dry.
  1. Place the head back onto your shaver.

How Do I Maximize The Benefit of My Norelco Electric Shaver?

Norelco shavers have a reputation for providing a close and comfortable shave. But you want the best shave the unit can deliver. Let’s show you how to achieve this feat (whether you’re a wet or dry-shave guy).

These tips and techniques will also reduce the chance of your skin becoming irritated when shaving.

Give yourself a trim.

We get busy with life and maybe skip shaving for several days. Perhaps you have a beard that is your pride and joy.

In both of these scenarios, it pays to give yourself a pre-trim before you use your shaver

Shaving long beard hair can have your skin reacting and breaking out in rashes. Something you don’t want!

Below is the shaver I personally use on my beard and my shaved head. I also included a few recommended products for maintaining a tidy trimmed beard.

Go slow and use care.

Rushing your shaving increases the risk of getting a nick or cut. So slow down and take your time.

Also, allow your shaver to glide across your face gently when using it. Pressing it hard against your skin heightens the possibility of irritation (especially if you have sensitive skin).

Additionally, taking a soft approach to shaving encourages your facial hair to stand straight. That makes it easier for the shaver to cut them. The result is you have the best shave possible.

Give your skin time to get used to electric shaving

One thing about switching to an electric shaver is that your skin may protest. That can have you wondering if it’s worth using this type of shaver.

It can take around three weeks for your skin to get used to electric shaving. Using a lotion after your shave can reduce the irritation.

Patience is key if you have decided to adopt electric shaving.

Rounding Off How To Clean Your Norelco Electric Shaver

Norelco shavers are renowned for giving guys a close shave. How you take care of these shavers depends on the model that you have.

Fundamentally the basics are the same. That is, you simply need to wash the razor head under warm water. The difference lies in whether the head can be completely removed from the unit or not.

For those who have chosen to start using an electric shaver, it can take several weeks for your skin to adapt. Use a moisturizing lotion (one that has an aloe vera base) to soothe any irritation.

Happy shaving!
